Alta Data Technologies has released a new application program interface (API) with a native Microsoft .NET 2.0 assembly that greatly reduces integration efforts for MIL-STD-1553 for National Instruments Labview test and simulation projects.

Alta Data Technologies of Rio Rancho, New Mexico has released an advanced application program interface, AltaAPI, that provides a low level ANSI C and high level Windows .Net 2.0 assembly. The low level ANSI C functions are ideal for standard C (Windows Visual Studio) and real-time applications with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS such as Windriver VxWorks, LynuxWorks LynxOS, etc…) or Linux 2.6 applications. The AltaAPI is designed to easily port to various operating systems through a single layer zero file format for memory mapping and interrupt handler management. Higher layer features of the MIL-STD-1553 AltaAPI include full Windows DLL and the first Windows .NET 2.0 assembly in the standard software distribution. The .NET assembly is ideal for Labview 8.0+ applications as the integration time is often only minutes to input and recognize the AltaAPI assembly in the Labview development environment. AltaAPI also includes example Labview configurations and full integration discussion in the manual to further support application development. “The Labview .Net support along with the AltaAPI .Net assembly greatly simplifies the integration effort so that the development or test engineer can often have 1553 traffic generated and monitored in only 15-30 minutes. We designed the AltaAPI functions so that applications from real-time embedded to avionics test stands can be get started fast, and have the sophisticated controls to meet the most demanding software requirements,” states Rich Wade, CTO of Alta. The AltaAPI distribution is provide at no-cost with Alta MIL-STD-1553 cards. Source code is provided for standard ANSI C functions and device drivers as permitted. Alta PCI, PMC, cPCI/PXI, PCMCIA, PC/104-Plus MIL-STD-1553 cards support 1553A, 1553B and other protocol variants. Alta also sells advanced analyzer, AltaView, and protocol SAE AS4111/4112 validation packages, AltaRTVam. Contact Alta at 888-429-1553 (in US) or 505-994-3111 (outside US) or [email protected].
